Wallpaper Installation Cost in Washington DC, Maryland & Virginia
The cost of wallpaper installation depends on the room, wallcovering and preparation—not just the wall area. Shotcount prepares a project-specific quote so you can understand the installation scope before reserving a date. This guide explains what affects the price and what to send for a useful estimate.
What makes up a wallpaper project budget?
- Wallpaper: the selected product, purchase quantity, shipping and any supplier charges. Confirm who supplies it; do not assume material purchasing is included in installation labor.
- Preparation: existing wallpaper removal, adhesive cleanup, repairs, skim coating and priming where required.
- Installation: layout, pattern matching, hanging and finishing for the agreed walls or ceiling.
- Project conditions: height, access, fixtures, occupied rooms, building restrictions and coordination with other trades.
Your written proposal controls what is included. Ask for any exclusions and optional work to be identified before approval.
Why room type affects installation cost
| Project | Details that affect the quote |
|---|---|
| Accent wall | Width, height, pattern placement, outlets and the condition of the existing finish. |
| Powder room or bathroom | Vanity, toilet, mirror, fittings, corners and access. A small room can involve many detailed cuts. |
| Dining room or bedroom | Number of walls, windows, doors, paneling, pattern repeat and transitions around the room. |
| Stairwell or ceiling | Working height, access equipment, changing wall heights and overhead layout. |
| Custom mural or delicate wallcovering | Panel sequence, artwork placement, product-specific handling and substrate requirements. |
Two rooms with the same area can cost differently
A clear rectangular accent wall and a powder room with the same wall area do not present the same installation task. The powder room may have more corners, fixtures and restricted working space. Likewise, a large pattern repeat or a planned mural composition can change the layout and material requirements. These are planning examples, not price quotes.

Compare quotes by scope
Check that each quote covers the same walls, preparation, material responsibilities, access arrangements and cleanup. Ask how additional repairs or scope changes will be approved. A lower headline price may describe a different scope; a written breakdown makes the comparison meaningful.
Booking and deposit
Once you approve your proposal, follow Shotcount’s booking instructions. A 50% deposit is required to secure the installation date. Confirm material delivery and site readiness with our team. The written proposal and booking documents contain the terms for your project.
Frequently asked questions
Can you quote from photographs?
Photographs, measurements and the exact wallcovering specification help us assess the work. Some projects need more information or an on-site review before the scope can be confirmed.
Is wallpaper removal included?
Only when it is included in the agreed scope. Tell us about existing wallpaper at the beginning so removal and subsequent preparation can be evaluated.
Is installation priced by square foot or by room?
Request a quote for your actual scope and ask which pricing basis is used. Square footage alone does not capture height, material handling, corners or preparation.
Can I get a fixed price from this guide?
No. This page explains the cost factors; your written project quote provides the price. Contact Shotcount for current pricing rather than relying on an old promotion or a generic online average.
