SHOTCOUNT · BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT
Wallpaper installation day checklist
A little preparation helps your installation run smoothly. Use this checklist for your home or commercial project in Washington, DC, Maryland or Northern Virginia, and confirm the arrangements in your Shotcount proposal before work begins.
Before installation day
- Confirm the scope. Agree which walls or ceilings are included, the pattern direction and focal point, and who handles removal, repairs, priming and furniture moving.
- Check your wallcovering. Confirm the product, quantities, matching batch or dye-lot references where applicable, and manufacturer instructions with your installer. Keep packaging and labels. Report missing or damaged material before the appointment.
- Share site conditions. Tell us about leaks, damp areas, loose paint, recent plastering or painting, and previous wallcoverings. Any drying or curing requirements depend on the surface and product.
- Arrange access. Confirm arrival details, parking or loading restrictions, building access, elevator reservations and any building documentation required.
Make the room ready
- Remove fragile items, artwork and small belongings from the work area. Agree arrangements for large furniture in advance.
- Provide a clear route and safe working space around the agreed walls. Confirm access to power and water where needed.
- Keep children and pets away from tools, adhesives and the work area.
- Discuss fixtures, switch plates, curtain hardware and other obstructions with the team. Leave electrical or other specialist work to appropriately qualified trades.
- Maintain the indoor conditions required by the wallcovering and adhesive manufacturers; ask before changing heating, cooling or ventilation.
At the start of the appointment
Walk through the scope with the installer. Review pattern placement, seams, corners, outlets and any areas that need attention. If an unexpected wall condition or material issue appears, clarify the proposed work and any price or schedule changes before proceeding.
Before the team leaves
- Walk through the finished areas and raise any questions.
- Ask for the product-specific drying, ventilation and cleaning instructions.
- Keep leftover material, product labels, your proposal and invoice together.
- Confirm how to contact Shotcount if a concern develops after installation.
Planning questions
Should I buy wallpaper before booking?
Discuss measurements, pattern repeat and packaging first. Our wallpaper measuring guide explains what to record; the final order should be checked against the actual product and layout.
Do I need to prepare the walls myself?
Only carry out work agreed with your installer. The installation scope and cost depend in part on the existing surface and the preparation required.
What happens after installation?
Follow the instructions for your particular material and adhesive. See our wallpaper aftercare and workmanship support guide.
